“I really enjoyed this. It is set in a world very like ours but where vampyrs are a barely tolerated reality. A suspected vampyr attack - in a remote, snow-bound, town - leads to Detective Atkins (forensic vampyr anthropologist) being called in. The local community is fired up with hatred for the colony (vampyr settlement) but Atkins refuses to authorise a cull. It had all the things I enjoy about a murder mystery, some very vivid characters and the gritty fantasy of this world with vampyrs. Themes of abuse, hatred, fear, abuse of power and intolerance.”
