“This story is my latest obsession.” USA Today bestselling author, Devney Perry

The gods love to play with us mere mortals. And every hundred years, we let them…

I have never been favored by the gods. Far from it, thanks to Zeus.

Living as a cursed office clerk for the Order of Thieves, I just keep my head down and hope the capricious beings who rule from Olympus won't notice me. Not an easy feat, given San Francisco is Zeus' patron city, but I make do. I survive. Until the night I tangle with a different god.

The worst god. Hades.

For the first time ever, the ruthless, mercurial King of the Underworld has entered the Crucible—the deadly contest the gods hold to determine a new ruler to sit on the throne of Olympus. But instead of fighting their own battles, the gods name mortals to compete in their stead.

So why in the Underworld did Hades choose me—a sarcastic nobody with a curse on her shoulders—as his champion? And why does my heart trip every time he says I’m his?

I don’t know if I’m a pawn, bait, or something else entirely to this dangerously tempting god. How can I, when he has more secrets than stars in the sky?

Because Hades is playing by his own rules…and Death will win at any cost.

The Crucible series is best enjoyed in order.

The Games Gods Play Reviews

“I have a very hard time being impressed with urban fantasy but I was thoroughly entertained by this. Even though the occasional appearance of a tablet or computer was a bit jarring it blended well with the kind of story we have here. I love greek mythology and this story following what if the greek gods were among us today gave us such a great and unique plot. Said plot did have some holes in it, I’m thinking they’ll be patched up in the second book hopefully but it wasn’t anything too bad. I loved the trial aspect I always love a good game or challenge. The romance could’ve been… sexier? Not spicier I would never judge a book for lack of spice, I just mean I need more tension, I need yearning, and most importantly I need to NOT know they’re going to bang as soon as I meet them thank you. Where’s the suspense? I’m tired of meeting a male mc and immediately knowing where it’s going to go. You could slow burn me for 500+ pages but if her first description of him is beautiful I know what’s going to go down. Also our FMC, the first thing that comes into my mind is Radio Rebel I’m sorry LOL. She’s very likeable but sometimes a little flat and her optimism just comes across very millennial. Her inner monologue is funny, but sometimes sacrifices serious emotion. She did make me laugh at certain points buttt there was some parts where I was like okay girl let’s get a move on. Settings were described very well, I got a clear visual of the many many places we went, and I sincerely enjoyed all of them. I was hoping this was a duology but I just read that’s it’s a trilogy… after book one I’m having trouble seeing how this will stretch to 3 books but we’ll see…”
