The Further Adventures Of Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

The Further Adventures of Robinson Crusoe is a riveting novel written by Daniel Defoe, published in 1719. In the previous book Robinson Crusoe the author has given an exciting description of Crusoe's 28 years living in deserted island 'Island of Despair'. Now, in England, he is enjoying a happy life after marriage, with wife and three children. But desperately he is missing those struggling days. Still, he wants to wander again in that island. He shared his stories but people hardly believed him. Only his wife relied on and consoled him. She also promised to accompany him in future expedition to 'Island of Despair' but unfortunately she died. After that Robinson was upset but he was eager also to help the people of deserted island, as they helped him in his struggle. So he started his new expedition with his companion Friday on his nephew's ship. Crusoe reached there and tried to establish a civilized way of living by rule of law. Later, in a attack he lost his companion Friday. Crusoe restarted his voyage through Brazil to cape of Good Hope. He travelled to Southeast Asia, China and Siberia, after ten years he returned his home.

The Further Adventures Of Robinson Crusoe Reviews

3.0
“The Further Adventures of Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe – Should you have the urge to read a sequel for one of the classic adventure novels, skip this one. His wife dies, so he leaves his children with an old woman to have another adventure with Friday…he’s a textbook example of idiocy. Go read the first one and save yourself from a gory and morally questionable part two! Happy Reading!”
Rolling on the Floor Laughing Face“As someone historically inclined, this felt like reading a history book, and is by far better than the first book! I have to admit that the first book’s exploits made Crusoe a changed man; his character development was the usual neophyte-no-more trope. The Further Adventures introduced Christianity which, ironically, advocated for consensual partnership, but it was really another way to encourage involuntary servitude (especially when Crusoe colluded with the Christians of Europe to maintain the same level of faith so as to evangelize other peoples), thereby perpetuating the status quo back then in the guise of believing in a higher power. I am still puzzled at how Crusoe’s moral compass really was. I do think it was moving how he initiated the ceremonial burial of his confidant and shipmate to the depths of the sea, but his ulterior motive to spread the religion was unnecessarily encroaching other cultures. Although I come from a country previously colonized, I find the camaraderie between colonial powers and mutual respect (especially towards the Spanish) eye-opening. Overall, I read this mostly to pass the time, and I shall see what’s in it for me in the last installment.”
