“The 20th Charlie Parker novel is actually two distinct but related novellas in one book. In The Sisters Strange (written during the 2020 lockdown and originally published weekly on the website), Raum Buker returns to Portland after getting out of prison in New Jersey. He previously dated Dolors and Ambar Strange. He returned with a new tattoo and something sinister lurking within him. The main villain in this part is a man named Kepler, who is searching for a coin stolen from him by Raum and his partner. Will Quinn, Dolors’ new beau, hires Charlie to figure out what is happening with Raum. Charlie uncovers the coin theft and a series of bodies that follow Kepler. The Sisters Strange prove to be more self-sufficient than they appear. In The Furies, Sarah Abelli hires Charlie to help her get back her mementos of her dead daughter from two men, Veale and Pantuff, who stole them for ransom. Marjorie Thombs hires Charlie to free her daughter, Melissa, from her abusive boyfriend. In the end, both Sarah and Melissa prove to be self-sufficient like the Sisters Strange. Two really great stories.”
