The Evolutionary Void (with bonus short story If At First...)
ByPublisher Description
BONUS: This edition contains Peter F. Hamilton's short story, If At First...
Exposed as the Second Dreamer, Araminta has become the target of a galaxywide search by
others equally determined to prevent—or facilitate—the pilgrimage into the Void. An indestructible microuniverse, the Void may contain paradise, but it is also a deadly threat. For the reality that exists inside its boundaries demands energy drawn from planets, stars, galaxies—from everything that lives.
Meanwhile, the story of Edeard, the Waterwalker, continues to unfold. With time running out, Inigo, the First Dreamer, must decide whether to release Edeard’s dangerous final dream. And Araminta must choose whether to run from her responsibilities or face them down, with no guarantee of success or survival. But all these choices may be for naught if the leader of a rival faction enters the Void. For it is not paradise she seeks there, but dominion.

“There has been a lot of build up and a lot of padding, and a lot of gratuitous sex references in the series, and one is left rather hoping there is a pay-off to justify all of this as we approach the last part of the book. Sadly the answer (for me) was no. The reveals were not that impressive, and the ending all a bit meh. Should have been two (much shorter) books.”

“A marvellous ending to a trilogy that I so incredibly enjoyed. Peter F. Hamilton managed to build upon the universe that his duology created, using aspects of the first series to continue into the Void trilogy, letting us see previous characters but also see new, interesting and fascinating characters.
Technology and imagination have always been strong points of Hamiltons writing, to me his ability to create advanced technology and mesh it into the world/unvierse have been incredibly enrapturing. I love when it's done in a way that maintains the stories cohesion but shows how advanced the society has become and the massive differences between current humanity and the imaginary society within the books.
This book was still a great ending to the void trilogy but I don't think it held as strong as the last two books. But to pull of what he has managed to pull off in the series is spectacular, there were so many characters, plotlines, politics/religion to deal with and Hamilton has done so with splender.
I believe that Peter F. Hamilton is most definitely now one of my favourite authors in general and most likely my favourite Science Fiction Author.
