“Disappointing
Was really intrigued at the start being set in the 1920s touching on the topics of women being depressed with they’re restrictive lives, i thought it was going to be a progressive book. Then introduced to 4 different women becoming close in Italy away from oppressive English society they could finally be happy. Half way through the book i understood the characters and loved their development. However then the men where re introduced and the book turned from women becoming content with their lives and forming close bonds with each other ( to the point where they were literally kissing ), to being about the women changing so they can be better wives to their husbands. I get it’s set in the 1920s so I can’t expect it too be too progressive and I did take into account the historical context but it just felt so out of place in the story. “It's the rarest, most precious of combinations, said Frederick, to be a woman and have the loyalty of a man.” like literally stfu who invited u to Italy. Just sad because it had the potential to be such a nice story and the message turned out to be ‘women should change for the men in their lives to be better for men because it’s always a woman’s fault relationships fail not a man’s’ ts pmo.”
