The Empty House
ByPublisher Description
The House
The house at the end of the lane had stood empty and abandoned for many years. It represented a challenge for the youth to get in, wave through a window, and get back out. It usually took an infamous Double-Dog-Dare to get this to happen, though.
The Kid
Harold has fallen victim to Mark's Double-Dog-Dare and must now enter the empty house to prove his worthiness to hang out with the older, larger kids in the neighborhood. Harold, with fear in his heart, but chin held high, ventures forth.
The Owner
Harold comes face-to-face with the owner, and only resident of the house, during his breaking-and-entering efforts. The owner is an eccentric man who bears a intimidating presence, but has a gentle soul. At least, Harold thinks the owner is a gentle giant.
