Publisher Description

“Mrs. Pollifax gives Agatha Christie's Miss Marple a rival to reckon with.”—Toronto Star

If you make it across the border, get us help. Some of us care. Do you understand? Right now we desperately need passports and identity papers. The arrests grow insane.

At the very hour this message was en route to the CIA, Mrs. Pollifax was waiting for her night-blooming cereus to do its thing.

She hardly got to see it, however, because Mr. Carstairs was already on his way to recruit that gallant lady for another daring mission.

Soon the most unlikely of all international spies was sporting a beautiful new hat—perfect for hiding eight forged passports.

“Mrs. Pollifax is an enchantress.”—The New York Times

The Elusive Mrs. Pollifax Reviews

Beaming Face with Smiling Eyes“My favorite so far! Such a great cast of characters and Mrs Pollifax was so much fun as usual.”
“Having just completed a very serious espionage book by Eric Ambler, I needed a bit of comic relief with a lighter “spoof” of the genre —The Mrs. Pollifax series by Dorothy Gilman. Mrs. Emily Pollifax, a 1960’s/70’s sort of american Miss Marple, is an unlikely undercover operative who works for the CIA. This was the third book in the Mrs. Pollifax Series. It was fairly enjoyable, but I don’t feel like it’s quite up to the level of the first two books in the series. I understand because of the Cold War era it was written in that same way (in this one she goes to Turkey), but it seemed a bit too similar to the earlier books. When I’m reading a series about a woman who travels all over, I like a change of pace and diversity in the stories, and was hoping she’d be sent somewhere totally different this time by her boss, Carstairs. Also the pace seemed slow in this story, and the plot not quite as interesting. Mrs Pollifax is a delightful series, and it was still a fun book, but . . . not quite as good as the debut.”
