“Wow. I loved this so much. Check your trigger warnings for sure! I loved the way the author used the elements when describing all parties involved in sexual assault cases. I think this was super creative and beautifully written. I cried. The Fire section was certainly a hard read but has so much to say. I think if you can appreciate the book My Dark Vanessa, you’ll appreciate this one. This would make a great book club discussion, if your book club members can handle tough topics like these.”
“This book was so cool! I loved how each story tied into a different element! I don’t wan to say much more so I don’t give anything away, but it definitely dealt with some heavy topics, but well in my opinion. Added this to my Favorites Shelf!”
“"He is breathless for the life he’s entering into and I hope that he will not know pain or betrayal or disappointment. But of course he will, because he’s alive and that’s the price we pay."
Elements is a terrific tour de force containing 4 different books (water, earth, fire, air). In each book we explore a crime through the eyes of the enabler, accomplice, perpetrator and victim. These are different crimes but the characters are all connected with each other.
In this novel, John Boyne does what he does best: weaving an intricate story of characters with different personalities & habits and drawing us, the reader, ever deeper in.
I cannot stress enough what an amazing book this was. Sometimes deeply emotional & sad and at other times it left my quietly giggling.
“Trust the Lord Willow, He trust in you.” I shake my head disappointed that he would end our conversation in such a way. “I’d never trust a man again, ifechi.” I tell him, reverting to his given name. “I’m not that stupid.””
