At seventeen, Will Dreycott is a superhero…in his dreams. And in yours.

Eight years ago, Will's parents, shady dealers in ancient artifacts, disappeared on a jungle expedition. Will, the sole survivor, returned home with no memory of what happened, bringing a gift…and a curse.

The gift? Will can walk in our dreams. At night in Dream, Will hunts for criminals—and his parents. During the day, his Dream Rider comic, about a superhero no one knows is real, has made Will rich.

The curse? Severe agoraphobia. Will can't go outside. So he makes his home a skyscraper with everything he needs in life—everything but the freedom to walk the streets of his city.

Case, an orphan Will's age, survives on those streets with her young brother, Fader. Survives because she too has a gift. She hears voices warning her of danger. And Fader? Well, he fades.

The Hollow Boys throws Will and Case together, as well as into danger and an unlikely romance, as they join forces to defeat a centuries-old body swapper preying on street kids.

In The Crystal Key, a trail of dark secrets leads Will, Case, and Fader to a mysterious world, trapping them between warring cults willing to kill for a dangerous and powerful artifact from Will's past.

In The Lost Expedition, Will's search for his lost parents propels the three friends deep into the jungles of Peru, where they battle an ancient evil to save all of reality.

Indiana Jones meets Teen Titans in The Dream Rider Saga, a fast-paced urban fantasy trilogy from "one of Canada's most original writers of speculative fiction" (Library Journal).

The Dream Rider Saga: The Complete Trilogy Reviews

5.0
“The exciting, imaginative epic saga now in its full glory! fast-paced action, imaginative and suspenseful urban fantasy, engaging adventure, intriguing mystery, dangerous magic, memorable characters (and creatures), fascination and danger, worlds of wonder await in this fantastic page-turner of a gripping story, a well-written and enjoyable collection that has some strong pull, both literally and figuratively. "if he can find you in Dream, you stand a chance" Will is an agoraphobic teenager who can walk in dreams but is restricted to his tower. By day, he draws graphic novels about the fantastic Dream Rider. By night, he helps the officials out with cases that otherwise might remain unsolved or at least take far too long to solve otherwise, especially when lives are at stake. Now street kids are disappearing, and no one seems to care, except for one journalist, Will's link to the world out there, and ... one Case in particular catches Will's eye (and him by surprise by her sudden appearance on his protected territory in her search to survive and save her brother). Will may not be your ordinary teen, but neither is Case... and more mysterious encounters await. This is just the beginning. This captivating story teases and slowly reveals a magnificent tapestry both magical and intricate, bringing threads together to form something spectacular, not only the illumination spell shedding some light to the question of life, universe, and everything along the winding paths. Emotional and entertaining, imaginative and original, this trilogy can be warmly recommended to a wide audience, from fans of superhero/comics to anyone in search of a good story with memorable (major _and_ minor) characters and intriguing plot lines. Plenty of interesting ideas and concepts, a whole lot of things to captivate the reader's imagination, from creatures born from the emotions of the dreamers to sword ladies appearing out of thin air, and a whole lot of strange things and landscapes not easily forgotten. Easy to read, yet intriguing, emotional, engaging. Satisfying character arcs, many moments both heart-breaking and heart-warming along the way, as we learn new sides to those we thought we knew and some we learn to know better. A fast-paced adventure with unpredictable twists and turns, superheroes who can't leave their towers, individuals with powers, missing parents, witchcraft, an ancient evil, some haunting landscapes and scenarios, strong women and POC, crafty teens, interracial romance, an older mentor who is and isn't there, formidable opposition, creepy creatures, unlikely odds. Just to name a few. In Canada. And Tibet. And... well, just read and see, it's fascinating. Practically anything is possible in Dream. The tougher part is doing something about it all in restricted reality. Can the boy who seemingly has everything and the girl who seemingly has nothing make it work and save the day (and the world) ? A memorable and captivating tale of friendship and (found) family, of trust and betrayal, of overcoming odds and rising to challenges, of growing and (taking) responsibility, with many turns that keep surprising, with every answer arise several new questions, with the stakes rising as well. "... travel into what you think is a trap, taking a sentient thing that people will kill for, to chase something that can't exist" - sums it up pretty nicely. Many fun references and amusing moments too, what with a place being considered too open when three floors underground, or amusing and at the same time tinged with sadness. I've grown fond of the term "additional moments of enlightenment" as well. (Anyway, true friendship/companionship is a superpower as such and should never be underestimated - kindness cam make the world a little better place, seemingly little things can mean a lot to some. Each of us might play an important, irreplacable part yet.) Also the frustration and pain in desperately trying to remember and not being able to, also how heartbreaking it can be to try to embrace memories. No matter how you try, you always end up missing or losing something or someone... and, after all this time, you find you don't know Jack. You might want to have something soft at hand to dry your eyes occasionally as you embark on this journey. The scope of this work is impressive, the wonderful comprehensive worldbuilding from impossible molecular structures to what can be glimpsed from the In Between, spanning hundreds of years and yet keeping it all together beautifully for the reader to enjoy. Never a boring moment on this fantastical adventure to seek the answers only to find more questions ... and satisfying closure by the end of the book. The science bits might inspire some to delve deeper into those mysteries as well. This combined edition has been enriched with discarded ideas, deleted scenes, and other curious tidbits that will surely delight the fans of the series, providing fascinating insights to the process of creating the epic story.”
“There are some comparisons I never make lightly. Philip Pullman's His Dark Material and much earlier Madeleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle in Time Quintet are some of the finest creations of this century in the same genre as Douglas Smith's Dream Rider Trilogy. This trilogy definitely holds its own against them. Perfectly blending science, fantasy and adventure, The Dream Rider books are not to be missed. Binge them, gift them, but definitely read them!”
