The Diablo's Curse

By Gabe Cole Novoa
The Diablo's Curse by Gabe Cole Novoa digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

From the award-winning and New York Times bestselling author of The Wicked Bargain and Most Ardently comes a high-stakes race to defeat a curse designed to kill--about a teen demon who wants to be human, a boy cursed to die young, and the murderous island destined to bury them both.

Dami is a demon determined to cancel every deal they've ever made in order to tether their soul to earth and become human again. There's just one person standing in their way: Silas. An irresistibly (and stubborn) cute boy cursed to die young, except for the deal with Dami that is keeping him alive. If they cancel the deal, Silas is dead. Unless... they can destroy the curse that has plagued Silas's family for generations. But to do so, Dami and Silas are going to have to work together.  That is, if the curse doesn't kill them first. . . .

Slightly Smiling Face“This was definitely a fun and enjoyable read, perfect for any YA readers for sure! It was a little fast paced, a quick read, which I didnt mind. While it was pretty predictable, and the danger the main characters were in never felt Actually Dangerous, it was still fun and kept your interest the whole book. The adventure of finding lost treasure to break a generational curse on an Indiana Jones type island is always a fun read. But what really made the book was the three main characters, Silas ( the cursed boy, queer ), Marisol, ( a trans girl ), and Dami (a genderfluid/nonbinary demon ). I loved all three of them as characters, especially Marisol, she was like the brains of the group, quick witted and fun. And I liked reading Silas and Dami’s relationship unfold, from going from hating each other to having to trust each other to caring about each other deeply. Again, this reads very YA, so if that’s not something you’re in to, it might not be for you, but for me, it was a quick, cute, fun read!”

“3.75 stars I loved a lot of individual aspects of this story. I loved seeing Dami again. I loved the bits we got to see of them in The Wicked Bargain, so I really enjoyed getting to see their own story. They are unexpectedly sweet and unapologetically genuine. Silas was also an interesting character. His and Dami's relationship was very interesting to see grow and evolve. The rep in this story is great. And we have a trans female character, with Marisol. While I liked her character, I didn't really see what purpose her frequent presence served to the story. She was a great friend, though. Even though I liked a lot of the individual aspects, all of them together just didn't help me connect well with the story. I definitely liked The Wicked Bargain more than this one unfortunately.”
