“I have seen people struggle to say that they enjoyed this book and I thought that would be me but I have to say that I did in fact enjoy this book. I enjoy being challenged intellectually. There are so many things to talk about when it comes to this book and I am far from qualified to do so.
I personally really enjoy the aesthetics of religion albeit I am not a believer in any way. This book nails that for me. I am hoping for even more commentary on religious fanaticism. We know THAT these people believe in these religions but I want to know WHAT they believe in. We get bits and pieces of scripture from epigraphs but I feel like I would be able to better understand this conflict if I knew how exactly these two faiths differed.
Misogony, cultural relativism, free will and many more complex themes are explored throughout this book so be ready to think and be challenged.
To say there is some uncomfortable things in this book is an understatement and I cannot recommend it to anyone. I would say read reviews and see what other people say before you make up your mind. This is not a series for everyone. Quite far from it. There is an excellent discussion on Dr. Philip Chase's channel about this book that I highly recommend you watch after reading this.
Bakker is an excellent writer and I could not put this book down. I will definitely be continuing the series.”
