Publisher Description

#1 New York Times, USA Today, and internationally bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout brings her trademark drama and intrigue to a new romantic YA science fiction series with The Darkest Star.

In the world of the Lux, secrets thrive, lies shatter, and love is undeniable.

Set in the beloved world of the Lux, a girl pulled into in a world she doesn't understand finds herself confronted by long buried secrets, a betrayal that could tear her life apart...and Armentrout's most swoonworthy book boyfriend yet.

Seventeen-year-old Evie Dasher knows firsthand the devastating consequences of humanity's war with the aliens. When she's caught up in a raid at a notorious club known as one of the few places where humans and the surviving Luxen can mingle freely, she meets Luc, an unnaturally beautiful guy she initially assumes is a Luxen...but he is in fact something much more powerful. Her growing attraction for Luc will lead her deeper and deeper into a world she'd only heard about, a world where everything she thought she knew will be turned on its head...

Welcome to the Origin series.

“I don't know how others feel, but I love spin-offs, especially spin-offs of books series that I love. You will never hear me complain about an author going back to a world that they created and writing more set in that world and expanding on it. In fact, I think more authors should write spin-offs, and this book here is a spin-off of one of my all-time favorite series. It's been a few years since this book was announced and released, but I remember being so excited about this book. I was excited to read a book featuring Luc as a romantic lead because I felt like the author only scratched the surface of his character in the Lux Series and there was definitely a lot of potential for his character. This book isn't told from Luc's point of view but rather than the main character is Evie Dasher. Evie and Luc have a connection that doesn't get revealed until much later in the story, but I like that it allows for a bit of mystery, and Evie also doesn't know her true connection with Luc. The events of this book take place four years after the end of the Lux Series, and the existence of the Luxen has been known for a few years. The Luxen are treated poorly, and the government appears to have them strictly monitored and controlled, and because of this, there are Luxen, Origins, and hybrids that are in hiding. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Luc and Evie, especially since I find Luc such an interesting character. I think as far as the plot of this book, I didn't find myself as invested as the original series. There were elements that I really enjoyed, but other parts of it weren't my favorite. I think I was just happy that the author decided to revisit this world that I love so much, and so rereading these books is always a delight. I just really love Jennifer L. Armentrout's books, and I feel like no matter what, I'm going to read her books.”
