The Dark Guest Reviews

4.5
“Wow I liked the pace of the book, the twists and turns. Great book connected to a time period, the cold war, that I haven't read before.”
“I read a lot of historical fiction. It is my favorite genre. The Cold War is a time I know a little about, but I haven’t read much if any historical fiction about it. The relationship between Violet Lundy and Rainer Kopecek is such a sweet one at a time when they both need each other. I was so sad about his death. Ranier’s death leads Violet on a search for answers after some hints he dropped and information that slowly comes to light. Her search for answers leads her to working with Dr. Henry Silverton, the author of the book Ranier was reading and left notes in. These notes will need special effort to translate and understand. Along the way, Violet and Henry will face some close calls and scary situations of their own. This book kept me absorbed in a story that just when I thought I had it figured out, a new twist occurred and I had to rethink what I thought was happening and who was behind it. Sarah Hamaker crafted a very engaging novel that also taught me a lot about an era I know so little about. I am looking forward to the next book in the series and other books by the author. I voluntarily received a copy of this book from Just Read Tours. All views are simply my honest opinion.”
“What an interesting, suspenseful, keep my on my toes novel!! Hamaker easily brought me into the storyline and didn’t let me go. The twists and turns were delightful and unexpected, and had me guessing right until the end. The Dark Guest has history, charm, danger, well written characters, and more. I think the thing I appreciated the most was that it wasn’t instant love for Henry and Violet. I think that when suspense books have that, it sometimes takes away from the mystery you’re trying to solve. Hamaker had the perfect mix of romance and suspense, neither taking over the storyline as a whole. I think romantic suspense fans will really enjoy The Dark Guest. I look forward to more from this series! I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
