The Cuffing Game

By Lyla Lee
The Cuffing Game by Lyla Lee digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Bestselling author Lyla Lee delivers a deliciously fun YA K-drama remix of Pride and Prejudice—if Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett were a college-run reality TV dating show.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that when there is a hot person, there is also someone with a crush on them.

Mia Yoon has a plan for everything. Get a full ride to her dream film school in Los Angeles, behind her mom’s back, and escape her middle-of-nowhere hometown—check. Produce her own dating show starring other people and their crushes—check. But everything goes off the rails when she has to enlist the help of her own secret crush, Noah Jang, a boy she’d rather hate.

Despite being a campus celebrity voted “most eligible student bachelor,” Noah can’t remember the last time he was in a relationship. And he’s perfectly content with that, thank you very much, especially since just the word feelings makes him uncomfortable. But he can’t stop staring at Mia, who keeps glaring at him in class. And when she asks him to be on her dating show—as one of the contestants—he can’t say no.

As Noah goes on more and more romantic dates on The Cuffing Game and Mia watches from behind the camera, something feels off. With the showrunner and contestant slowly falling for one another, can the show still go on?

The Cuffing Game Reviews

4.0
“If Love Island was a book, this is it. This book has the fun drama of a TV show but set as college kids during a week long winter break right before Christmas. And bonus points for the audio being under 8 hours, meaning I got to finish/start it during work. Perfect teen book that introduces all types of relationships and personal dating drama. Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75 Spice Level: None Enemies to lovers Forced Proximity Dating Show LGBTQ representation YA/Teen Thank you to Netgalley, HarperAudio Children's / HarperCollins, and author Lyla Lee, for providing me with the ALC of “The Cuffing Game”, in exchange for my honest review! Jennifer Sun Bell did a wonderful job narrating this book.”
“Ok so I need the Hallmark movie adaptation of this one ASAP. This novel was adorably cute and so much fun! It’s a charming rivals to lovers college new adult romance about the creation of a reality dating TV show. Of course I was absolutely sold on the main love story, but the relationship building of the supporting characters and other contestants was the true heart of the story, especially when our FMC and MMC were still in their rival era. It’s a beautifully diverse cast of characters that highlights so many different backgrounds, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and gender identities. The only element of the story that wasn’t perfect in my opinion was some of the rules of the dating show. Contestants aren’t really given the freedom to change their cuffing partners without almost definitely getting eliminated, which does get addressed, but only after production is already in full swing. Also some of the FMC’s backstory exposition is narrated a bit clunkily, but these are minor complaints compared to the lighthearted romantic fun that this story has to offer. The pacing moves pretty quickly, and even though you know where the story is going (as it should be when it comes to the romance genre), it’s so enjoyable and entertaining. I’m grateful to HarperAudio Children’s for sending me an advance listener copy via NetGalley in exchange for my thoughts. 4.5/5⭐️”
“This was an ARC from NetGalley. This was presented as a YA Pride and Prejudice retelling with a mix of K-pop (not really, other than a character being an international student), and dating reality tv. The idea was cute, but execution needs some refining. The tone came across younger YA despite the characters being in college, some being seniors. Additionally, I understand the show was a student production, but being the central plot point, its execution into the story felt clunky and needed polished. Lastly, the entire short detour into Vegas could have been eliminated. Overall, an easy enjoyable read, but nothing too notable. #netgalley #thecuffinggame #ya #romance #realitydating”
