Would absolutely recommend this series. Will be my go to answer for favorite book.”
“So emotional. The third and final book in the Kristin Lavransdatter historical fiction trilogy was as emotionally draining as it was difficult to put down. All of the emotions are about life. The everyday struggle and suffering humans do. The emotions were raw and real because it was about a regular, simple life full of it all, the good and bad. Gain and Loss.
The first installment, The Wreath set the stage. During the reading of the first one I wondered why the trilogy had won the Nobel prize for literature. The second, The Wife - hooked me from the beginning and was incredibly emotional.
The Crown was also crushingly emotional and the only time I could put it down was when I needed a break from feeling so much. I 100% understand why this trilogy won the Nobel prize for literature. Written in the 1920s, it reads and feels current. I don't even know if I can start another book today, I'm completely wrung out.”
About Sigrid Undset
Sigrid Undset is a major figure in early twentieth-century literature. A Norwegian born in Denmark in 1881, she worked with the Norwegian underground during the Second World War, fled to Sweden in 1940, and later came to the United States. She is the author of many works of fiction as well as several books for young readers and a number of nonfiction titles. Her novels encompass a variety of settings and time periods, ranging from medieval romances such as the Kristin Lavransdatter trilogy—generally considered to be her masterwork—and The Master of Hestviken tetralogy to modern novels such as The Winding Road, Ida Elisabeth, and The Faithful Wife. She was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1928. Sigrid Undset died in 1949.
