Publisher Description

‘All I can say is Oh. My. God… Hooks the reader in… One of the best twists I’ve read… Brilliant.’ Hannah Writes Reviews

Whatever you think you know… you’re wrong.

Following a whirlwind four-month romance, lawyer Claire and hotel entrepreneur Angus are engaged to be married. Happy and successful, and ready to start their new life together, Claire and Angus find what they believe to be the perfect home.

But when Claire meets Mark, the man selling them the house, he looks eerily familiar. He looks exactly like the man she loved five years ago, the man she couldn’t bear to lose.

As Claire finds herself irresistibly drawn to Mark and crosses lines she never thought she’d cross, Angus’ behaviour becomes increasingly suspicious. Soon Claire doesn’t know whether she can trust Mark, Angus… or even herself.

The Couple is a psychological thriller with a stunning twist, perfect for fans of The Girl Before, The Wife Between Us, and The Woman in the Window.

“Characters: I didn't really connect with any of the characters. I thought Claire, the main character, was hard to care for. Claire and Mark's connection was just really random. Twists: Yes, there was a good twist in the book. Speed: It wasn't a long read, I just wasn't really into the book, so I didn't WANT to keep reading. Overall thoughts: I thought parts of this book were pretty unnecessary. Any part that related to her family was just extra and I didn't think it helped the story at all. The twist was good...but the story just felt disconnected. Merged review: Characters: I didn't really connect with any of the characters. I thought Claire, the main character, was hard to care for. “People magazine does a great job of introducing us to "perfect couples". These are the pair who are just meant for each other. Surely Gwen and Blake, JLo and Alex, and Meghan and Harry have it all. Life would surely only get better and better fort these talented, wealthy, beautiful people. Meet Claire and Angus, the perfect couple in Sarah Mitchell's novel, The Perfect Couple. Four months earlier, Claire, an attractive immigration lawyer met handsome, wealthy hotel entrepreneur, Angus. Love blossomed and they are now engaged to marry. After the fabulous wedding, surely this happy couple will need to take up residence in the ideal home. Touring a possible "ideal" house, Claire meets the owner Mark. Although Mark is older, he reminds Claire of her first love Daniel. It is unsettling. Now the unease begins. Claire if drawn to Mark. Lies are told and past secrets revealed. Angus' behavior becomes erratic and suspicious. Claire is unsettled by the fact that she doesn't know who she can trust. Her decisions don't all make sense and she wavers between being strong or being weak. Sarah Mitchell delivers several jaw dropping moments in this book as well as a surprise at the end that you won't see coming. The Couple is a quick read that will leave you questioning what do we ever really know about another person or another couples life. I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. #NetGalley #TheCouple Merged review: People magazine does a great job of introducing us to "perfect couples". “I found this a little slow to begin with & struggled to get into it, but I percieved. I'm glad I did as it turned out to be a great psychological thriller. Claire, meets & gets engaged to Angus after just 4 months. While buying a house, she meets the previous owner who reminds her of her ex, Mark. This leads to lies & secrets. I'd definatly read another of Sarah Mitchell's books. Thanks to netgalley for providing an Arc of this book in exchange for a review.. About Sarah Mitchell

Sarah grew up in Norfolk and studied law at Cambridge University which led to a career as a barrister, working mainly in the field of human rights. After nearly twenty years she was tempted off-track by a creative writing course at the Open University and fell in love with making up stories instead of constructing arguments. Three years later she completed, with distinction, an MA in Creative Writing – Prose Fiction at the UEA. Now she lives in Norfolk again, this time with her husband and three almost-grown-up children, where she combines writing with some legal work – and thanking her enormous number of lucky stars.
