The Constellation of Forgotten Things Reviews

3.5
Loudly Crying Face“I received an ARC of this title in exchange for a review. Reviews are for readers. I found this book quite tedious. Many of the stories are quite similar, and utilise the same flowery language that borders on purple prose. There’s only so many ways to describe someone’s appearance or a setting before it becomes repetitive. I felt like there were some issues with pacing in some stories. I liked “Until the Sun Sets Again” and “A Song of Rain” in particular, but I still came across the same issues with those stories that I experienced in all the other stories. For example, I can’t even tell you what happened in “A Tale of Two Brothers”. The narrative jumped around a whole lot and the language was super flowery and made it difficult to follow. I know that the jumping around in that story would have been to further the narrative along faster, but it felt rushed and clunky. A clear highlight for me was the Authors Note at the end of each story. Love that! I love the bits of real life and hearing the inspiration behind the stories and characters. I did like how it explored the theme of grief and working through grief and how it changes you, but overall this book was just not for me. Although this book may not have been for me, it will be for someone 🖤”
“4.5 ⭐️ — thank you so much to the author for this arc !!!! this anthology of short stories is written by tiffany and her son ren, who passed away a few years ago. I am so glad she found the strength to share these stories with us because ren's beautiful writing deserves to be shared and loved ! this book is full of grief and sorrow but also hope and it makes you think about what is really important to you. every story has an author note where tiffany gives some more information about how the story came to be, whether she or ren wrote it. they both have such wonderful writing styles. I have to admit that even before I got to the actual stories, while reading the prefaces etc. I was already tearing up on the bus. forever grateful to have been able to read ren's words.”
