The Complete Works Reviews

3.5
“📚Finished this one Epictetus: The Complete Works, was a massive convenience of having all the surviving texts bundled together, no filler. I enjoyed how accessible it feels & the philosophy doesn't hide behind archaic phrasing. Really enjoyed it! The teachings are sharp, practical, that cut deep and stay with you. Packed with lessons that still apply. Distinguish what's in your power from what's not, tame appetites and impressions. Some things are up to us (our opinions, desires, impulses), others aren't (reputation, health, death) focus only on the first. Epictetus drills in the skill of letting go, stop wasting energy getting upset over events, opinions, or outcomes you can't control. Once you internalize that, most daily agitation dissolves, criticism, illness, or any externals beyond your power and suddenly life feels lighter, less reactive. So many more lessons. This is where so much of today's mindset mental models and self-mastery content originates. Standout quote for me: "You're a little soul carrying around a corpse." Cuts straight through ego and illusion, strengthens presence and detachment. If you're after timeless tools & want the original source code for living well, grab this edition. Highly recommend to anyone ready for unfiltered ancient power tools. It's worth every page. 📖”
