The Complete Greek Tragedies, Volume 2: Sophocles
ByPublisher Description
The Grene/Lattimore edition of Greek tragedies is one of the most successful publications of the Univ. of Chicago. On the centennial of the University & its Press, we reissue it in a 4-volume slipcased edition & redesigned paper versions. Two translations have been replaced. Originally David Grene translated only one Theban play, Oedipus the King. Now he has added his translations of Oedipus at Colonus & Antigone. Grene has also revised his translation of Prometheus Bound, rendering some former prose sections in verse. These new translations replace the originals included in the paperback volumes Sophocles I (all 3 Theban plays), Aeschylus II, Greek Tragedies I & Greek Tragedies III, all of which are being published in 2nd editions. Other volumes contain the translations of the tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophocles & Euripides from the original versions of the '40s & '50s which have sold over 3,000,000 copies.
