Publisher Description

Powerhouse adult fantasy author R. A. Salvatore and Erika Lewis deliver a sweeping, action-packed, romantic pre-Arthurian tale of the origins of magic (and Merlin), perfect for fans of Falling Kingdoms and Seraphina.

Magic needs a spark.

And Maggie’s powers are especially fickle. With no one to help her learn to control her magic, the life debt that she owes stretches eternally over her head, with no way to repay it.

Until she meets Griffin, the king’s champion, infamous for hunting down the draignochs that plague their kingdom.

Neither has any idea of the destiny that they both carry, or that their meeting will set off a chain of events that will alter every aspect of the life they know—and all of history thereafter.

This epic, romantic tale will enchant readers and draw them into a thrilling world of star-crossed lovers, magic, destiny, and the paths we choose.

“A lot of whining and build up to a very very rushed ending. The ending could have redeemed the whole book with the twist it had (even with the hints to it the whole time) but it was way too fast… very basic world building. This would be a good book for someone not really into romance and more into action. 🤷🏻‍♀️”
Thumbs Up“I was really excited to read this book as it was my 1st dragon story, but it wasn't what I expected. the book is 403 pages, and it took me almost 2 weeks to finish it. I am usually read that many pages within 3-4 days, but I was not excited to turn the page and get to the next part.. What I liked: 1) the last chapters are the most action packed, and got me turning the pages quicker than I did the whole book. 2) the dual pov. what I didn't like: 1) how the pov was 1st person for the girl & 3rd person for the guy. I thought that to be really lame. I would have preferred them to be the same narrative. 2) the story was overall very slow in my opinion. 3) the magic was not what I was hoping for. not my favorite book of the year, but it was alright.:”
Thumbs Up“I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this standalone, there were just so many things at the beginning where I was like am I really gonna like this book but I gave it a fair shot and I would say I really did. Enjoy this book. definitely not a five stars by all means because you don’t get as connected to characters in a standalone. However, despite this, it was very well thought out and I did really enjoy it.”

About R. A. Salvatore
