The Coldest Girl in Coldtown
By Holly BlackPublisher Description
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is a wholly original story of rage and revenge, of guilt and horror, and of love and loathing from bestselling and acclaimed author Holly Black.
One morning, after a perfectly ordinary party, Tana wakes up surrounded by corpses. The only other survivors of this massacre are her exasperatingly endearing ex-boyfriend, infected and on the edge, and a mysterious boy burdened with a terrible secret. Shaken and determined, Tana enters a race against the clock to save the three of them the only way she knows how: by going straight to the wicked, opulent heart of Coldtown itself.

“4 stars: I loved it - I adore Holly Black’s writing, and I love vampires, so this was a treat. While it’s fantasy, the premise feels like a realistic outcome if vampirism were to become an epidemic. The Coldtowns and their allure, the lavish vampire parties, and the vampire-obsessed bloggers drumming up endless interest felt believable. Tana, our protagonist was beautifully developed—she is reckless yet aims to please, reminding me of my younger self in many ways. The other characters were great, as well. One of my favorite aspects of the book is the first chapter. If there’s one thing Black excels at, it’s starting a book with a deadly hook. She did this with The Cruel Prince, and she does it here too; it is almost impossible not to be pulled in right away. However, I have the same complaint about this book as I do with The Cruel Prince: not enough romance. I wanted more moments with Tana and Gavriel. Nonetheless, the interactions they do have are so sweet, and Black consistently makes me fall in love with her male main characters.”
