Jimmy followed his baseball dreams as a college All-American but was crushed later in life by a failed major-league bid with the Detroit Tigers. He would have carried this story to his grave had Anne not discovered his scrapbook from a Navy school that shaped America's greatest heroes including George H.W. Bush, Gerald Ford, John Glenn, and Paul "Bear" Bryant.

“This book was informative, but different then I expected. I was hoping to see a book about not just the time at school, it their careers in the military. Maybe more about their baseball careers. It was interesting to learn about how much baseball they played in the military, and how much the flight school was tied into sports in general.”
“I understand this is about her father's memories while he got to be a batboy for many baseball players and other future notable men when they were in pre-flight training at Chapel Hill, North Carolina. It is a different aspect of these individuals whose public life we know quite well. However, this is only a small glimpse at that moment in time. I did get a bit frustrated because the view of her father as a boy is these guys were just playing baseball. Mickey Mantle was criticized for going to war because his body was not in the best of shape, but was trained for baseball and he played through the pain.
