“Padraic Colum's The Children of Odin was the first Norse Mythology book I read, not this specific edition. Mine was a dusty old hardcover in my high school library. This book changed my life, causing a love for poetry and an interest in the Norse people's history, traditions, and culture. This book does a great job presenting you with an easily readable, easily followable, and enjoyable experience that I recommend to anyone wanting a light read that will have you turning the pages until you've read through all the stories without even knowing it.
Years later, I found out that this author was an Irish poet. Without any knowledge of that, I found myself today having traveled to Ireland, learned to tell oral stories, and told tales to audiences back in the States only to realize that low and behold, this book came full circle and from the writings of an Irish storyteller.”
About Padraic Colum
Padraic Colum (1881–1972) was a poet, a playwright, and a leader of the Irish Renaissance, but he is best known for his works for children, including The Children of Odin and The Golden Fleece (a Newbery Honor Book).
