Publisher Description

Mischief? Or Menace?

Wrangling Fetch City's magical rules and regulations keeps Karla Simmons plenty busy.

But a midtown sinkhole that crosses all the boundaries drags her into the fragrant fray.

Karla and her mundane City Hall counterpart fight to stop the collapsing streets before chaos wins.

Will they restore order before it's too late?

Part of Magical Law, an Uncollected Anthology

An excerpt from The Case of the Psychedelic Sewer Balls:

Fighting the Red-Tape Disaster

Karla flipped open her laptop, getting a welcoming giggle from the processor.

"Care to explain what you meant by this mess landing in my lap, Wyatt?"

"I mean one Ms. Terri Wilson is asking for a meeting with you ASAP to discuss options. She seems determined to keep this from spreading, in the media and in additional sinkholes. And obviously worried that it might."

"Terri's the best one to call in, and no one else. She's the only one I trust not to go digging for more information, or to share what she learns. Besides, she's got enough knowledge of the rules and regs and enough pull on her side of the divide to make a difference. I'll need to review the relevant contracts and treaties. How long can you delay her?"

Wyatt snapped all five fingers together in a point, and his conjured newspaper disappeared.

"The mundane media's all over this, so we're talking an hour at most. She made it clear she'd prefer to meet as soon as she can make it down here. And that you're not alone in needing to dig into the law."

"I won't put her off, then. We'll have to review what we need to together, and hopefully avoid lawyers landing in the middle of this."

About Kari Kilgore

Kari Kilgore started her first published novel Until Death in Transylvania, Romania, and finished it in Room 217 at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, where Stephen King got the idea for The Shining. That’s just one example of how real world inspiration drives her fiction.

Kari’s first published novel Until Death was included on the Preliminary Ballot for the Bram Stoker Award for Outstanding Achievement in a First Novel in 2016. It was also a finalist for the Golden Stake Award at the Vampire Arts Festival in 2018.

Recent professional short story sales include three to Fiction River anthology magazine, with the first due out in the September issue. Kari also has two stories in a holiday-themed anthology project with Kristine Kathryn Rusch due out over the holidays in 2019.

Kari writes fantasy, science fiction, horror, and contemporary fiction, and she’s happiest when she surprises herself. She lives at the end of a long dirt road in the middle of the woods with her husband Jason Adams, various house critters, and wildlife they’re better off not knowing more about.

Kari’s novels, novellas, and short stories are available at www.spiralpublishing.net, which also publishes books by Frank Kilgore and Jason Adams.
