The Captain’s Curse

By Lisa Kessler
The Captain’s Curse by Lisa Kessler digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Captain Ian Flynn would die for any one of his crew…if he could. Now he might have to. Because one of the only known weapons able to kill an immortal is missing. The Spear of Destiny—a priceless religious artifact from the crucifixion—is in the hands of his ship’s ruthless ex-captain. Now the lives of the Sea Dog’s immortal pirate crew are all at risk…along with the headstrong mortal Ian never should have fallen for.

Writer Lily Bouchard isn’t sure what’s worse. That she fell for Ian Flynn only to get her heart broken, or that she romanticized the man like he was some gorgeous viking straight out of a movie. So when he shows up suddenly with some absurd tale of immortal pirates and mythical religious relics, Lily doesn’t know what to think. He’s always had a wildness beneath his well-tailored appearance…but how could any of this possibly be real?

Now a centuries-old vendetta between two pirate captains has erupted, and Ian will do anything to keep Lily safe—even if it means risking everything. But she won’t give him up without a fight.

The only thing more dangerous than killing an immortal is falling for one…

The Captain’s Curse Reviews

4.0
“This was the first book in the series that I have read and I truly enjoyed the storyline. I love the spins on the paranormal and history. I would 100% recommend this book. We learn that Captain Ian Flynn and his crew are immortal because they found and drank from the Holy Grail. Because of this, Captain Flynn's idea of love and life has been tarnished. What he once thought about love turns out to be different than how he currently feels. Throughout the story, he tries to redeem himself with his crew and the woman he has fallen in love with, Lily Bouchard. Lily is mad. Several months ago, Ian walked out of her life and disappeared without a word. Now what she thought would be a nice change of scenery for her writing has brought her face-to-face with her ex. But what she thinks she knows and sees is wrong on all fronts. Ian desperately tries to convince her that the reason for him ghosting her was to protect her, but a broken heart can be hard to heal when it's been broken the same way before. As Lily searches her heart to forgive the Captain, an old nemesis of his shows up to ruin it all. Can Ian prove that what he did was totally out of love and protect the woman he loves? Will his past come to finish him off and take him from her? Can people change for the better?”
“If The Librarian, Warehouse 13, and Highlander got together and had a baby it would be this book, and I love every freaking page of it. I devoured this book, the story, the characters, the mix of fantasy and reality, it is the perfect combination and I need more. Let's just talk about the spice for a moment, holy hotness, Ian and Lily have the kind of chemistry that jumps off the page and sucks you in. The dashes of history, the idea of immortal pirate captains fighting each other, keys to Atlantis, mermaids, and true love, well what more can you ask for in a book? This review is short and sweet, mainly because I want everyone to read this book so that we can all talk about this fantastic story. Thank you to Entangled Publishing Amara and NetGalley for providing a copy of this e-book, I have voluntarily read and reviewed it and all thoughts and opinions are my own.”
“Captain Ian Flynn is facing a threat to his life, which is more difficult than you could imagine, since he is one of the immortal pirates in Sea Dog’s crew. When he received news that a person from his past was not as dead as he thought, Flynn left his girlfriend and cut all his contact to protect her from this enemy. Lily is a writer looking for a change in scenery to inspire her new novel, that is telling a story with a stalker, and take her mind away from her recent break up. In her mind, she must be a little paranoid, because Lily thinks there is someone following her. Little does she know that this new place she chose to stay is going to be where she reconnects with Ian and finds out that the fictional world, she has always read in books is closer than she could ever imagine. This was a great ending to this series and Lisa put a lot of thought into it. All our pirates are happily married and found their partners. I found it clever for her to redeem not only Ian, but also Morgan in this last book. Yes, they once were 18th century pirates, but they have evolved into more modern people. I found this book to wrap all loose ends from the pirates and make a smooth segway to a new series/book (maybe?) with David and Petra as protagonists. Lisa has a writing style that really resonates with me. It is quickly paced and presents facts on a needs-to-know basis, which I really enjoy.”
“This story is all about Captain Ian Flynn, the ultimate badass immortal pirate, on a mission to protect his crew and the love of his life, Lily Bouchard. But things get crazy when the Spear of Destiny, this relic that can kill immortals, goes missing. And guess who's behind it? Ian's archenemy, Morgan, seeking revenge. The intensity in this book is off the charts! Ian and Lily are thrown back into each other's lives, and Ian has to earn back her trust while dealing with danger and a secret society. Action? Yup. Romance? Oh yeah, it's sizzling. And there's even a chance for them to make things right and find love again. The story wraps up the whole series in the most thrilling and satisfying way. Seriously, you'll be on the edge of your seat the entire time. Don't even think about missing out on this electrifying conclusion!”
“We finally get Captain Ian Flynn's story but it also marks the end of this series. It's sad but I'm happy we got to know Captain Ian on a deeper level. Lily was a great addition to the crew as well. Thank you so much to the author this series overall was full of adventure and spice. Captain Ian Fynn hasn't worried much about his life as an immortal until now. Someone has stolen the Spear of Destiny from Department 13 and if it falls into the wrong hands, every one of the Sea Dog's crew is in danger. Writer Lily Bouchard is trying to mend her broken heart. Ian walked away without any explanation and now here he is with a wild tale about immortal pirates and religious artifacts. She can't wrap her mind around all this at first but he also warns her that someone from his past is looking to settle an old score. So she is also in danger. He'll do anything to keep her safe but Lily doesn't want any more secrets between them and she wants an equal partnership going forward. She's falling in love with the immortal pirate all over again and Ian wants to spend the rest of his life with her. Thank you so much to the author, Entangled, and NetGalley for this ARC to review.”
