“I really enjoyed this book despite the slow start. Mimi is by far the best character, though Piper is so deliciously messy and self-obsessed in finding the worst of herself that you have to like her too. For most of the book I felt a certain distance from the story and the characters, but it all comes together in the last third of the book and it's well worth the wait if it doesn't immediately click. Plus, the river as a character but not is absolutely perfect.”
