“The author did a great job at researching what was going on in Denver in the 1950s and '60s and it was a lot of fun to know exactly which streets they were walking on or driving to. There were some fictional places sprinkled in but it wasn't gratuitous and made sense.
I also liked how she seemed to really capture the language and societal expectations and norms for the time period. How women, immigrants, and children are viewed and accepted in particular was both frustrating and felt accurate based on experiences I've read or heard otherwise.
The plot line took a few twists and turns I did not anticipate, and I don't want to spoil those here (for once lol). But I will say that reality and brains mix in very strange ways (and I kept hoping for a sci-fi twist to happen). Overall I'd recommend, especially for someone who lives in Denver.”
