“<strong>A Forgotten Classic</strong>
I came by this book by chance; when looking up the movie (reminiscing on when I watched as a teenager), I learned that it was based on this book (which to my surprise was part of a trilogy!). To be honest, I'm surprised by this rare find & am pleased to have had a chance to read it.
Wonderfully written, this story tells the tale of two children who end up stranded on an island in the Pacific Ocean after the ship they were traveling on with their uncle must be abandoned. In a way, the story expresses the true nature of man if he is uncorrupted with death & the nature of a civilized society. The children's naivety present the world in a new light & reveals the simplest pleasures of man when he is not given modern skills and duties. But it is also their naivety that can be dangerous and misguide them on their stranded lagoon.
I will definitely find time to read the sequel.”
