“Passei mais de dois anos lendo esse livro. Quase sempre pegando um conto ou outro entre as outras leituras que ia fazendo. Ele realmente é grande como o título diz, e faz um panorama muito mais amplo da ficção científica do que costumamos ver em antologias do tipo. Tem conto do Brasil, de outros países da América Latina, da Finlândia, do oriente médio, da China, uma quantidade de contos japoneses que podia ser uma antologia por si só. Me parece uma leitura que ajuda muito quem quiser ter uma perspectiva do gênero nos últimos 100 anos, mais ou menos. Os VanderMeer são os meus antologistas contemporâneos preferidos e chega a ser uma pena que, após as duas dedicadas à fantasia que publicaram depois deste livro, não editem mais coletâneas desse tipo. O conto que mais gostei provavelmente foi "Surface Tension", que jamais teria conhecido sem esse livro. Mas o nível de escrita, em geral, é impecável. Chega a ser uma pena que tenha levado tanto tempo para lê-lo pois já não lembro dos detalhes de muitos deles, mas anima para uma futura releitura.”

ANN VANDERMEER currently serves as an acquiring fiction editor for Tor.com, Cheeky Frawg Books, and weirdfictionreview.com. She was the editor-in-chief for Weird Tales for five years, during which time she was nominated three times for the Hugo Award, winning one. Along with multiple nominations for the Shirley Jackson Award, she also has won a World Fantasy Award and a British Fantasy Award for co-editing The Weird: A Compendium of Strange and Dark Stories. Other projects have included Best American Fantasy, three Steampunk anthologies, and a humor book, The Kosher Guide to Imaginary Animals. Her latest anthologies include The Time Traveler’s Almanac, Sisters of the Revolution, an anthology of feminist speculative fiction and The Bestiary, an anthology of original fiction and art.
