Publisher Description

Everyone in the rural town of Ashling knows the tale of Veronica Green, a teen who was murdered in the woods. But did a party trick bring her back to claim her revenge? A fast-paced, suspenseful YA horror from the author of Summer's Edge and People Like Us.

There is no one Hazel trusts less than her self-centered twin, Beth. So when Beth abandons her at a party she didn't want to attend in the first place, Hazel decides not to let it ruin her night. She throws herself into flirting and telling ghost stories over a Ouija board. Hazel might not be the popular twin, but she is going to have fun if it kills her.

Except Beth doesn't come home that night, and Hazel's anger morphs into anxiety. It only sharpens when Beth reappears a day later, disoriented and claiming to be Veronica Green, a teen who was murdered in their small town years before. If it isn't a possession, Beth is really good at faking it. Did they accidentally release a vengeful horror during the party?

Hazel must uncover what happened to Veronica all those years ago if she's going to save Beth. But the truth may destroy them both—if they don't destroy each other first.

“I'm usually on board for a queer subplot but this one felt performative. It distracted from the story rather than adding depth.”
“Exactly what I needed to get out of my reading slump. Fast paced, familiar trope but interesting plot twists. Love the queer representation in a small town. Very 80’s teen thriller story vibe, but in the 2020’s. The twins were super interesting to understand. It was a little preachy for my taste in the LGBTQ+ topics, but I think it’s helpful for the young adults reading this book to get an understanding of the struggles. It was just a little too explanation-y rather than letting the audience understand. But that’s just personal preference. First legit thriller for me!! Giving this one to my boyfriend to read and confirm that I understood the plot 😅”
“Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read early! This was such a wild ride! I loved the lore, the setting and all the characters. The author did such a good job at confusing us, building a narrative and then completely destroying it and surprising us. I LOVED the twist!! Often I don’t like that YA horror is too soft (little to no gore, an easy out and happily ever after that feels forced) but this book does not do these mistakes. This has all the gore, many deaths that surprised me and the ending? Brutal. I’m literally mad because I know we won’t get a book 2 but it was the perfect, uncomfortable and anxiety inducing ending this book deserves. A must read for spooky season!”
