The Bayern Agenda
ByPublisher Description
A new Cold War threatens the galaxy in this fast-paced, wisecracking science fiction thriller that reads like “Ocean’s Eleven in zero gravity” (Helene Wecker, author of The Golem and the Jinni)!
Simon Kovalic, top intelligence operative for the Commonwealth of Independent Systems, is on the frontline of the burgeoning Cold War with the aggressive Illyrican Empire. He barely escapes his latest mission with a broken arm, and vital intel which points to the Empire cozying up to the Bayern Corporation: a planet-sized bank. There’s no time to waste, but with Kovalic out of action, his undercover team is handed over to his ex-wife, Lt Commander Natalie Taylor. When Kovalic’s boss is tipped off that the Imperium are ready and waiting, it’s up to the wounded spy to rescue his team and complete the mission before they’re all caught and executed.
The first installment in the Galactic Cold War series, The Bayern Agenda is an unforgettable, genre-bending science fiction thriller full of spies, subterfuge, and dry humor!

“I decided to read this for a reading challenge as recommended by my husband. Besides being set in space, I enjoyed this book (I am not a big sci-fi reader, especially space) and was pleasantly surprised to be captivated by the story by the last quarter of the book. It took a bit for me to get into as it is a lot of dialogue and less description and setting of the scene. The author does dialogue very well, it just was a bit lacking for me as an audience. The characters didn’t really have much growth but there might be more of that over the course of the series (which I don’t currently plan to read). Story was well done and exciting though!
One thing that bothered me was some grammar/editing choices for some stuff (e.g., no periods after Mr or Ms or Mrs)…there was also some terminology switching in the last quarter of the book that threw me for a loop at first, but it didn’t happen much. Overall though, this was a good read and I am glad gave it a shot!”

“I really enjoyed this! Two point-of-view characters. Nice little band of spies on a fascinating and twisty mission. I think the world building could have been stronger. I felt like I was guessing on some of the context and backstory for the action. I will definitely be reading book 2.
[EDIT: Apparently, even though this is listed as book one, there is a prequel and there are a couple novellas. That might explain my struggle with the world building/context.]”
