“Okay, Killjoy’s on a roll here—second book in her Danielle Cain series. I was mesmerized. I love the characters—how can you go wrong with a strong coterie of Anarcho-punks?—and I love the setting—an occult library in a small Montana town—and I love the philosophy it gently spins out—anarchist to the core, queer, mutual aid-rooted relationships—the book kicks ass.
The magical system is deep and believable, and its setting in a small town America that is slowly dying down is haunting and provocative. What went wrong? When? How will it all spin out?
The only reason I didn’t give it the full five stars is because it was so damned short! I didn’t want it to end…. And it pisses me off that this truly short book costs $17.95! Highway robbery….
Regardless, I recommend it unreservedly—so long as you can find it used, or get it from the library….”
“Very fun, refreshing read, perfect for getting lost in a little world on a lazy day off. This story did not touch as heavily on some of the heavier themes in the first book of the series, making it a particularly lighthearted escape. My one real criticism for any Margaret Killjoy book is that i wish they were longer. This one took me a day to read, and I'm already craving the next installment in the Danielle Cain series.”
“A short, but very good read! I would so
love to read a 1000 pages novel with Danielle Cain. But there’s no time to write long reviews: the next book in this series lies already next to me 😃”
