By Jim Butcher
The Aeronaut's Windlass by Jim Butcher digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Jim Butcher, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Dresden Files and the Codex Alera novels, conjures up a new series set in a fantastic world of noble families, steam-powered technology, and magic-wielding warriors...

Since time immemorial, the Spires have sheltered humanity. Within their halls, the ruling aristocratic houses develop scientific marvels, foster trade alliances, and maintain fleets of airships to keep the peace.

Captain Grimm commands the merchant ship Predator. Loyal to Spire Albion, he has taken their side in the cold war with Spire Aurora, disrupting the enemy’s shipping lines by attacking their cargo vessels. But when the Predator is damaged in combat, Grimm joins a team of Albion agents on a vital mission in exchange for fully restoring his ship.

And as Grimm undertakes this task, he learns that the conflict between the Spires is merely a premonition of things to come. Humanity’s ancient enemy, silent for more than ten thousand years, has begun to stir once more. And death will follow in its wake...

The Aeronaut's Windlass Reviews

Anxious Face with sweat“Did as a reread as I read it 10 years ago and couldn't remember what happened. But know it was a good book. The 2nd one has finally been released (2 years ago now) but l kept putting off the 2nd one cause I hated the cover, too girly and pink for a book that is anything but. Even though it was a reread somehow took me 2 weeks . But it is a really good read. Rooting for the underdog, super smart cats and some creepy ass monsters in steam punk world”
“I struggled through the first 60% of this book, and I’m not fully sure why. I liked the characters well enough and the story was interesting, but something about it didn’t really draw me in until the action picked up a lot more. The stakes were very high and the author didn’t hesitate to kill characters off, but I think the buildup took too long for me. Loved Rowl the most probably, and Folly too. The other characters grew on me towards the end, and I think I’ll probably try out the sequel when I feel up to another big read. I wish I loved it more though, sky pirates are pretty cool.”
