“Texas Buried Secrets wraps up Virginia Vaughan's Cowboy Lawmen series. Deputy Cecile Richardson publicly announces she's going to bring a serial killer to justice, causing him to target her as his next victim. Sheriff Josh Avery vows to keep her safe and fight his growing feelings for her. He's holding onto something in his past, trying to keep Cecile at arms length to protect her from the shadow that hangs over his head. Will Josh push her away and straight into the arms of a killer? Virginia really pulled me into this excellently written story. The characters were believable and very likeable. I connected with them and truly felt what they were feeling. This was a wonderful love inspired, inspirational romance and I highly recommend it.
My thanks to the author/publisher for the ARC of this book. I was only asked to write an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”

“Friends to lovers and a dark murder mystery.
A romantic mystery with a lot of pining. This gives off heavy Criminal Minds and NCIS vibes, mainly with the flow between character perspectives and the pacing of the plot.
Deputy Cecile is a strong female protagonist and her character maintains that strength throughout the story. She is very headstrong, in her actions and while she is put in danger several times, she still carries that strong presence.
Sheriff Josh Avery is very much the "tortured by his past" character who maintains that the ghosts of his past will keep him from his happily ever after. While I am not normally a fan of this style of character, the way his reasoning is explained through his backstory and his perspective makes his character less of a moody broody woe-is-me styled character and brings importance to his actions.
There are several points in the story where "just a feeling" is used to explain why characters act a specific way, and while in any romance story I love the gut feeling connection between two characters, I found that this was done a few too many times for it to flow well. There's also a point where a character repeats a sentence and the instance had me stopping and feeling a sense of deja vu.
Overall, a good novel if you are a fan of The Chestnut Man, or Criminal Minds. I enjoyed the story and loved the strength presented in each character.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.”
