By Eugene Peterson
Tantan Tails and Tantan Tales by Eugene Peterson digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

This book is the life story and memoir of a young boy growing up on a small island in the Caribbean. It is vivid and dramatic, and should appeal to a large audience. The story is common to many young men and women growing up in the Caribbean, and their struggle to assimilate and adopt to rapid changes in population, education, and exposure to the outside world. Because the stories are non-fictions, and are related to actual historic events, many historical facts may be gleaned from these accounts. Many of the accounts are comical and make for easy reading and comprehension. Many Virgin Islanders will recognize names, places and events that took place over the 30 years period that the story covers, and it is sure to generate vibrant discussions whenever this book is discussed.

About Eugene Peterson

Dr. Eugene Alexander Petersen was born in Frederiksted, St. Croix Virgin Islands on February 3, 1949 to Evadney Neazer-Petersen and James Archibald Petersen. He grew up in Frederiksted and later attended Tuskegee Institute (now University), in Alabama. He earned his bachelor of science degree in Animal Science (1973) and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (1975). He worked for a brief period at the Needham Animal Clinic in Needham, MA and returned home in 1976 to work for the Crago Animal Clinic in La Grande Princesse, St. Croix. He later became co-owner of the clinic and worked there for 25 years. He retired from his veterinary practice and for a period seven years ran the Virgin Island Racing Corporation (VIRCO), which managed the Randall “Doc” James Racetrack on St. Croix. As president of VIRCO, he was very instrumental in introducing simulcasting and account wagering on horse races and dog races to the Virgin Islands. Dr. Petersen is still a performer and can be seen on island or abroad on many of his cultural trips to Europe and the mainland United States to perform solo with his guitar, with cultural dance groups, or with calypso bands performing the classic calypso folk music of the Virgin Islands and the Caribbean. He was elected to serve as a delegate to the Virgin Islands Fifth Constitutional Convention and was the territorial campaign manager for Kenneth Mapp gubernatorial campaign in 2010. Dr. Petersen is also a popular talk/music show host on the local radio station WSTX on St. Croix Virgin Islands, where his topics range from current events, culture preservation, to political discussions as well as featuring the classical calypso music of the 1930’s thru the 1980’s.
