“Some really good stories that really expand the Mythos. I always enjoy when a story takes an existing story and canonizes it. Having Lovecraft know actual mysteries about real in universe terrors is a lot of fun.
I also particularly enjoyed the two Robert Bloch stories that serve as an episode 1 and 3 to Lovecraft's Haunter in the Dark as an episode 2. The final reveal was very well done.”
“I enjoyed every single story in this collection. The order of the stories allowed interesting references to be made, and seeing so many similar ideas presented by different authors was a unique experience.
The premise of historical significance lining up with strange interactions with Elder Gods was gripping, and the "mysterious-journal-found-by-relative-of-long-lost-insane-uncle" was always fun to dive into. It's almost like a really unique combination of investigative, historical, and horror fiction. I found myself thinking of many stories for days after reading them.
There's a reason why the Lovecraft mythos is so renowned.
Reading these in a 1969 leatherbound hardcover from the library also added to the unique experience.”
