“This collection was not what I was expecting. The stories cover a broad range of topics, characters, and age ranges all while sticking to the central theme of rural Midwest life. I picked it up because of one particular story that was expanded into a movie (A Gravestone Made of Wheat -> Sweet Land), both of which were excellent. Reading all of the stories was like taking a road trip through the back roads and small towns of the Midwest.”
