Publisher Description

Magic passed down through generations. An island where strange things happen. One summer that will become legend.

Practical Magic meets Nova Ren Suma’s Imaginary Girls and Laura Ruby’s Bone Gap in this lush, atmospheric novel by acclaimed author Katrina Leno.

Georgina Fernweh waits impatiently for the tingle of magic in her fingers—magic that has touched every woman in her family. But with her eighteenth birthday looming at the end of this summer, Georgina fears her gift will never come.

Over the course of her last summer on the island—a summer of storms, falling in love, and the mystery behind one rare three-hundred-year-old bird—Georgina will learn the truth about magic, in all its many forms.

Loudly Crying Face“Haunting and Beauiful. Set in a beautifully costal town (a soft spot for me) Summer of Salt is a gorgeous story that challenges what it means to be a woman and rape culture. The relationship between the sisters was so gently written and you can’t help falling in love with their realationship. Despite it being a minor subplot I quite loved the sapphic romance element. Overall this book is about sisterhood, growing up and leaving the nest, and finding your voice again.”

Slightly Smiling Face“This book was so cute!! I loved the practical magic-esq vibes. Small town witch is my dream job, ask anyone. I loved the main characters and their relationships. From the fernwehs, the townsfolk(minus you-know-who), to the birdheads… it was fun getting to know about everyone. I do feel it was a tad rushed but it didn’t take away from the spirit of the book which was felt throughout. Enjoyable read!!”

Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes“This was my third time reading this book and I somehow loved it even more. The writing style, magic, and character dynamics are exactly what I look for in a story. The serious topics brought up were heartbreaking but offered important commentary. This remains an all-time favorite of mine!”

Thinking Face“I’ll admit I went into this thinking this I might not be the right reader for this book and I was right. I loved how atmospheric the setting was. I love a good seaside and small-town magical vibe. I was not as invested in the characters and for me when the plot started to get interesting it resolved too quickly for my tastes. I can see why this is a beloved book but this book just was the for me.”
