Publisher Description

Zoey Masterson didn't know what pain was before, but she's learning fast. Kidnapped off the Manhattan streets and whisked away from the safe, normal world she once knew, she finds herself the victim of one reprehensible man's vision. Forced to witness the depravities of the seedy underworld where lust, rape, torture and mutilation are a way of life, stripped of clothing, pride, and spirit, Zoey must play their games, bear their torture—but for how long? Somehow she must learn to survive the daily perversions … but how can Zoey survive? How could anyone? Somewhere between ecstasy and pain—learn to SUFFER THE FLESH.

“There is an incredible quote by Franz Kafka that I think about almost daily, ”I believe that we should only read those books that bite and sting us. If a book does not rouse us with a blow then why read it?”

SUFFER THE FLESH is the epitome of a book that bites and stings, it is an unpleasant book, a book filled with irredeemable characters and relentless scenes of rape and torture.

Over 20 years after its original release, I think this book has become a monument to what extreme horror was and what it can be. It stands in defiance of contemporary trends; extreme horror where the good guy (or in most cases, good girl) always wins, extreme horror that holds our hand and tells us everything is going to be okay, extreme horror that only exposes us to an offensive viewpoint so we know who the bad guy is and who will inevitably get their comeuppance.

All this affirmation and vindication is fun and easy to digest, but sometimes there is an inherent artistic value in something which is just timelessly horrible.”
