“This novel had great ambiance, and it did a fantastic job describing both the lush beauty, and the danger, of the swamp. The mystery/suspense was pretty good and held my interest. And of course the interpersonal dynamics, both love and friendships, made the characters endearing. However, what happened with the dialogue??? It came across as incredibly stilted and repetitive. It got to the point where the characters were actually repeating each other’s sentences, and I don’t think anyone uses the other person’s name that often in conversations. I am a fan of Carla Cassidy, and am quick to snatch up her books, but the dialogue in this one fell very flat. Now, with that being said, I found out that this is the first book in a trilogy, and I just so happen to have all three books! I’m excited, because, despite the dialogue issue, I did enjoy the story - and I also like that the over-arching mystery has not yet been solved and will lead in to the next one. Time to see which character gets their own story next!”
