“I enjoyed this second visit with Kalvan, Dave, and Spark and all their friends. It is a story of Kalvan learning to accept and understand his powers, himself, and his history. At times the spell work was a bit complex. And while I feel that mental health is topic that needs to be talked about more and shown in books more, at times it felt a little too much for a middle grade reader.
But an enjoyable read with magic and spells and familiars.”
