When Austin Ward was a child, her brother accidentally locked her in a dark and terrifying place. Since then, she has suffered from achluophobia—a paralyzing fear of the dark.

As an adult, she seems to be coping well, until one night she gets trapped in a room and the lights go out. During the ensuing panic attack, she blacks out and when she regains consciousness discovers someone she knows  has been murdered.

As the body count rises, Austin is driven to find the killer, but where should she begin her search? Has a killer come to her quiet Pacific Northwest town? Or, has something sinister followed her from childhood—something she met once before—in the dark?
