AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!

“Poised and chilling.” —Wall Street Journal

“No-one does suburban paranoia like Shari Lapena—this slowly unfurling nightmare will have you biting your nails until the end.” Ruth Ware

Another thrilling domestic suspense novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Couple Next Door and Not a Happy Family

Maybe you don't know your neighbors as well as you thought you did . . .

"This is a very difficult letter to write. I hope you will not hate us too much. . . My son broke into your home recently while you were out."

In a quiet, leafy suburb in upstate New York, a teenager has been sneaking into houses--and into the owners' computers as well--learning their secrets, and maybe sharing some of them, too.

Who is he, and what might he have uncovered? After two anonymous letters are received, whispers start to circulate, and suspicion mounts. And when a woman down the street is found murdered, the tension reaches the breaking point. Who killed her? Who knows more than they're telling? And how far will all these very nice people go to protect their own secrets?

In this neighborhood, it's not just the husbands and wives who play games. Here, everyone in the family has something to hide . . .

You never really know what people are capable of.

Thinking Face“Excited to start reading Lapena's novels, starting with Someone We Know. A little lackadaisical, the entire novel lead by conversation which was new to me and a little underwhelming. Characters really flat, just lines of conversation, but I don't regret the read. The story kept me in enough and finished in a day. No real thrill or surprise by the end. 3/5”

Thinking Face“As someone who *loves* a drama-filled, scandalous, neighborhood murder mystery, I thought this was pretty solid. It had me hooked, the plot moved along at a nice pace, and even if it was a little bit predictable, I still really enjoyed to ride all the way to the end. The problems I had were pretty minor, but Shari Lapena’s writing and story-telling is just really addicting to me!!”

Expressionless Face“I was guessing the whole book but it fell flat for me. Nothing super shocking and I suspected the killer from early on because why talk about a side character so much?”

Thinking Face“3.5 since I did enjoy reading it and wanted to find out how it ended, although I wasn't very satisfied or excited about the ending. I feel like it would've been more believable if Glenda had killed Amanda herself in a fit of rage after finding out her husband was having an affair with her...rather than Adam being the killer. That twist fell short for me. But overall, it was a page turner that kept me guessing so overall enjoyable read.”
