Somebody I Used to Know by David Bell digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

The bestselling author of Somebody's Daughter and Cemetery Girl, “one of the brightest and best crime fiction writers of our time” (Suspense Magazine) delivers a pulse-pounding thriller about a man who is haunted by a face from his past...

When Nick Hansen sees the young woman at the grocery store, his heart stops. She’s the spitting image of his college girlfriend, Marissa Minor, who died in a campus house fire twenty years earlier. But when Nick tries to speak to her, she acts skittish and rushes off.

The next morning the police arrive at Nick’s house and show him a photo of the woman from the store. She’s been found dead, murdered in a local motel, with Nick’s name and address on a piece of paper in her pocket.

Convinced there's a connection between the two women, Nick enlists the help of his college friend Laurel Davidson to investigate the events leading up to the night of Marissa’s death. But the young woman’s murder is only the beginning...and the truths Nick uncovers may make him wish he never doubted the lies.

Somebody I Used to Know Reviews

3.5
“Kept me on my toes from page 1, I could barely put it down, quick easy read. Definitely recommend!”
“I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. Nick Hansen has never gotten over Marissa, his one true love. Marissa died in a tragic house fire twenty years earlier while in college and despite his attempts to move on, he is always haunted by her memory. Then while shopping at the grocery store he sees the young woman who is the spitting image of Marissa. Nick tries to speak to her to see if she may be related in some way to his former girlfriend, but she becomes skittish and runs off. This causes Nick to wonder about her even more. Who was she? Why did she run? When the girl from the grocery store turns up murdered in a hotel room, the police begin to question Nick about her murder. As more information is revealed he is sure that there is a connection to the girl and he convinces his friend Laurel to help him find out what really happened the night of Marissa’s death. What Nick and Laurel begin to uncover leaves more questions than answers. As the investigation into Marissa’s death begin to unfold there are questions as to who this girl from the grocery store really is, who murdered her, what happened in the days and weeks leading up to the fire, was it arson or an accident, and who is following Nick? I am a suspense and thriller fan so books that surprise me are my favorite kind and this one didn’t disappoint. I thought I had it figured out, but Somebody I Used to Know kept me guessing until the end. Before reading this book I was unfamiliar with David Bell’s work, but I enjoyed this book and will be reading more of his books in the future. If you like the suspense and mystery genre and are looking for a read that isn't too heavy but entertaining then I recommend Somebody I Used to Know.”
