Sleeping Cat Blues
ByPublisher Description
An attack on a retired journalist brings new attention to an old case, in this clever mystery with a cat’s-eye view . . .
Jeremy Goodman has been taking a class in local history taught by Margaret, a retired journalist. She’s just dug up some intriguing new information in a forty-year-old unsolved triple homicide known as the Golf Course Murders—and now she’s been attacked and left for dead.
Jeremy is teaming up with an ex-cop classmate to look into Margaret’s assault—and their fellow students, as well. Could one of them have a connection to the cold case? There’s a lot of investigating that needs to be done—and his cats, Aubrey and Vincent, just might sniff out a key piece of evidence . . .

“Ok, hang on a minute!
How come there a cosy mystery series - that involves cats!! - that I do not know about!!?
So, this is the 5th ....yes the 5th book in the Cat Noir series and (sadly!) the first one that I've read!
This one actually read perfectly well as a standalone read - in the main.
Containing the same characters from the previous books, it does often refer to past events and I did feel as though I'd missed out on the whole character development over the series - but I think that's just me - on the whole, this reads really well.
I adored the characters.
The idea that it's the cats doing the sleuthing, fits brilliantly.
Cats see all and can snoop where others can't, so absolutely plausible!
But seriously, I think we should give some credit to their slaves too!
This was such a great concept - having our main narrator as a cat - I just loved it!
The storyline was a little predictable - but it didn't spoil my enjoyment of this book one bit - I just loved the quirky and fun concept and the humour infused throughout.
I'll definitely be adding the rest of the series to my wishlist for future reading - and look forward to the next installment too!”
About Alison O’Leary
I was born in London and spent my teenage years in Hertfordshire where I spent large amounts of time reading novels, watching daytime television and avoiding school. Failing to gain any qualifications in science whatsoever, the dream of being a forensic scientist collided with reality when a careers teacher suggested that I might like to work in a shop. I don’t think she meant Harrods. Later studying law, I decided to teach rather than go into practice and have spent many years teaching mainly criminal law and criminology to young people and adults.
The Cat Noir series was inspired by the real Aubrey, a large tabby rescue cat that lived with us for fifteen years. He was given his name by my husband, who was reading John Aubrey’s Brief Lives at the time. As Aubrey said later, he was just grateful not to have been called Brief. One day my husband turned to me and said, ‘do you know, that cat always looks purposeful. As if he’s just off to his club, or he’s got a bit of admin to catch up with.’
Or maybe a crime to help solve …
I enjoy reading crime novels, doing crosswords, and drinking wine. Not necessarily in that order.
