Sibylline
ByPublisher Description
Three teens infiltrate the magical ivy league in this heart-stopping dark academia romantasy, the first in a young adult duology from #1 New York Times bestselling author Melissa de la Cruz.
Raven, Atticus, and Dorian have dreamed of attending Sibylline for as long as they can remember. But when the magical ivy league rejects them, the friends’ plans of a future together studying the arcane begin crashing down.
Until they decide to steal an education.
Getting jobs on campus, they sneak into lectures and swipe forbidden texts, dodging the administration’s watchful eye. In the quiet of night, in the thrill of secrecy, their magic awakens. And so do long-buried attractions that turn their friendship into something more.
But like magic, love can create, and it can destroy. As unrequited feelings and resentment threaten to fracture their bond, the trio discovers an insidious magic that has sunk its claws into Sibylline, killing students and corroding the very bones of the university. Now the three intruders may be the key to saving the institution from wreckage . . . if they don’t wreck one another first.

“Sibylline is everything I’d hoped it would be. Atticus, Dorian, and Raven are interesting, complex, and relatable characters, and their relationship is charming.
I loved the settings of the museum, library, and construction(?) site. It helped with visualizing the school and made for a really unique final conflict. I’m not someone who usually visualizes things while reading, so the fact that so much of this came alive off the page was impressive.
I did find that the last section felt a bit rushed compared to the rest, and I didn’t find the final scene super attention grabbing, but the rest of the book already succeeded in making me look forward to the eventual rest of this series.
Overall, this felt both unique and genuinely well done. The relationships may be some of my favorite across similar books I’ve read, and I can’t wait to see what the author does with it in the next books. I already want a movie.
Thank you to Penguin Young Readers Group for providing this ARC for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.”

“This had such a great premise and the summary is what definitely drew me in. Dark academia meets Romantasy with mystery and lots of secrets…count me in! The story started strong with our three main characters sneaking into Sibylline campus as workers after being rejected from the school. I loved seeing their magic right away and overall thought the magic was such a strong point. Then when the mystery begins to pick up I was hooked! Where the story falls short for me is the unrequited romance between the three main characters. At times the romance fits seamlessly in the story but then we get moments that are so forced and completely pull us out of the story. The timing and pacing with the romance between the three never really came together and the plot quickly focuses on the romance over the true mystery at the magic school. Which for me I was way more invested in the magic and mystery. I wanted to dive deeper into the history and lore but instead we barely skim the surface.
Overall this has a ton of potential and I think people will enjoy it. For me the romance became too much of a focus that just didn’t seem to fit with the story at times. I will say after the ending I am intrigued if there will be more from this world.
Thank you to Penguin Random House, Penguin Young Readers Group, NetGalley, and the author for an advanced copy!”
