Soldier
. Summoner. Saint. Orphaned and expendable, Alina Starkov is a soldier who knows she may not survive her first trek across the Shadow Fold—a swath of unnatural darkness crawling with monsters. But when her regiment is attacked, Alina unleashes dormant magic not even she knew she possessed.

Now Alina will enter a lavish world of royalty and intrigue as she trains with the Grisha, her country’s magical military elite—and falls under the spell of their notorious leader, the Darkling. He believes Alina can summon a force capable of destroying the Shadow Fold and reuniting their war-ravaged country, but only if she can master her untamed gift.

As the threat to the kingdom mounts and Alina unlocks the secrets of her past, she will make a dangerous discovery that could threaten all she loves and the very future of a nation.

Welcome to Ravka . . . a world of science and superstition where nothing is what it seems.

Expressionless Face“Echoing the thoughts of others that Alina is so whiny that it's hard to get through. Otherwise it's a good plot and twists. Interested to see where the series goes.”

Expressionless Face“The end of this book brought it up to a 3.5 star rating. Once she left to try and escape it got a lot better, but the beginning dragged it down. I couldn't get over the fact thatost of Alina's thoughts were either "oh Mal/unrequited love" or "ugh I'm just not pretty like the other girls" it really made it hard to like her. But the ending definitely makese want to continue the series, especially now that Alina is stronger, mentally and physically.”

Slightly Smiling Face“I didnt mind this book but I definitely think it's overhyped online. I will continue to read the series as the premise is interesting and everyone tells me they get better as you go”

Thumbs Up“Alina was a boring character, i can’t overemphasize it. Glad i started with six of crows cause this would not have made me read through the series. The writing was clear, the ending brought things up alot that’s what made my rating a 2.5.”
