By Melissa McShane
Shades of the Past by Melissa McShane digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

An assignment to mediate a religious conflict takes the paladin Ginnevra and her werewolf companion Eodan to the city-state of Quinizelle, site of Ginnevra's greatest failure. Four years earlier, a bandit attack caused the death of the king's sister, the woman Ginnevra's paladin company was sworn to protect, and nearly cost Ginnevra her life.

Now, Ginnevra's former best friend returns, claiming to have proof of what really happened four years ago. Caught between past tragedy and present conflict, Ginnevra must stop Quinizelle from descending into religious war—and face truths she wishes had never come to light.

“If you're reading this, I'll assume you've already read the 1st and 2nd books of this series. Things I loved about this book: This installment really challenges and deepens what we know about the religion of this world by bringing in another faith that is entirely removed from the Dark Goddess. It brings up more questions in a really interesting and dynamic way about what other powers exist in this universe. We see a little more into Ginnevra's past and understand her faith journey from another perspective. It was really powerful to see her growth as a person in this context. I really like how this series addresses some rather concerning religious norms from the unique vantage point of fantasy.”
“Great! As always! This was a little slower than the other books, but still just as good! I found myself growing very irritated on Ginnevra's behalf during several parts of the book. I always find myself so interested in how she will make things turn out for the best. I'm always quietly rooting for her. I can't wait to read on!”
