“As far as a Jane Austen retelling goes, Nikki Payne’s writing is sharp, whip smart, and it’s refreshing to read. ‘Sense and Sensibilities’ is not as clearcut as other popular Austen stories when adapted into a contemporary setting. This got heavily weighed down by issues of social identity, family pressures and financial problems. The drama outshines how the sisters are supposed to be tightknit and the romance between all the main characters were just benchwarmer, and by the third act, it made me question if this should be categorized as literary fiction with a spicy, sexy side dish instead.”
